Liselotte of the Palatinate
Duchess of Orléans and sister-in-law of Louis XIV. Unconventional free spirit at the court of the Sun King.
Elisabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate, born on May 27, 1652 in Heidelberg, died on December 8, 1722 near Paris. As a child, she preferred to play outside and enjoyed climbing trees, but of course she enjoyed a courtly upbringing, whereby the teaching of religious tolerance stood out. Liselotte von der Pfalz, with her delight in writing letters, has left us valuable, open and blunt insights into courtly life at the time. Our homage to her is characterized by liberal thinking in a golden cage.
